November 15—Overflowing Service
Having been served, we serve!
Luke 10:25-37 (Parable of the Good Samaritan)
The rich young ruler spoke up to “test” Jesus, but the “tester” quickly became the “tested.” In his reaction, the rich young ruler attempted to limit his responsibility to love his neighbor. Jesus responded with the telling of the Good Samaritan. The scandal of the parable is that the men who should have responded with grace (Priest/Levite) did NOT, yet the man who should not have responded with grace (a Samaritan) DID! Having experienced the ultimate act of service (Jesus securing our salvation), we are empowered and responsible to love others like this Samaritan loved a “neighbor in need.”
