QUICK INTRO:

I graduated from SIU where I studied Television and Video Production with a minor in Photography. I have been involved with digital media since my early teens.

NICKNAME:

Sarwhal (like narwhal).

MINISTRY ROLE:

Design / Web / Media
(I design most of the graphics for screen and print as well as help out with videos and anything else creative!)

FAMILY:

Yes. Youngest of three kids. All homeschooled. Thus the weirdness.

DREAM VACATION:

A trip to Hogwarts with an afternoon spent in Hogsmeade. Butterbeer and other wizard treats sound delicious. Or Florida is nice.

REGULAR ORDER AT STARBUCKS:

Smoked butterscotch latte.

FAVORITE MOVIE:

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Leap Year, Hot Rod, The Lego Movie, Guardians Of The Galaxy, The Martian, & the list goes on!

FAVORITE ACTOR/ACTRESS:

Simon Pegg, Rashida Jones

LIFE MOTTO:

“Be who you needed when you were younger.”

FAVORITE SCRIPTURE:

THINGS THAT FASCINATE ME:

Starry nights, good art, tall trees, salt water pools, the beauty of grace.

PREVIOUS JOBS:

Organizing a teacher’s mess of file drawers that made me worry about being covered by a tetanus shot, getting loads of graphic design requests from high-strung students learning to be high-strung news people, winning many awards (cash and trophies) for entering arts and crafts into the county fair, and standing on my feet in one spot for too many hours running a camera.

ONE THING THAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME:

I’m the coolest kid from my high school. #homeschooled
Also, I’ve been a photographer for 4 weddings so far.

FAVORITE TV SHOW:

Sherlock (BBC), The Office (U.S., not UK), Psych, Parks and Recreation, Downton Abbey, Fringe, Community.

WHEN AND WHERE DID YOU GET SAVED:

I was baptized when I was 7 or 8 but my teen years were less than Christ-following. Sometime in the past few years, I started to realize that I hadn’t been serious about giving my life to God, so it’s been a process that has accelerated since starting to attend Cornerstone and finding a small group that helps me stay connected.

WHAT SPORTS ARE YOU NOT GOOD AT:

It’s much easier to list the sports that I’m okay at: Ping-Pong . . . yeah, that’s all.

FAVORITE SINGER OR BAND:

Relient K is my #1. (but I also like Imagine Dragons, Andy Mineo, Twenty One Pilots, Kings Kaleidoscope, and many more).

PET PEEVES:

When people think that I can read lips. I can’t. It’s a serious problem.

LIFE-CHANGING MOMENT:

When I realized that adults are just older kids who have responsibilities. And now I’m one of them.

HIDDEN TALENT:

I can make some balloon animals.

FEARS:

SNAKES…270% terrified of snakes. Even lizards and centipedes give me the creeps. (I grew up in the country, so we had multiple occasions where we had to remove snakes from the house. I noped right out of those situations.)

FAVORITE BOOK(S):

Too many! Chronicles of Narnia, Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter.

PEOPLE WHO INSPIRE ME:

Amazingly Artistic – Jeremy Cowart (photographer). Super Smart – Jon Acuff (author, etc.). Nonsensically Nice – Jimmy Fallon.

QUIRKS:

I enjoy organizing things that other people usually avoid . . . like cleaning out our staff fridge. I enjoy the challenge!

IN MY SPARE TIME:

I like to draw quotes to practice my hand lettering. I also enjoy drawing goofy little comics.

LEAST FAVORITE FOOD:

Yogurt. I know it’s healthy but it’s gross.

WHAT/WHO MAKES YOU LAUGH?

I have a very lenient sense of humor, so I enjoy everything from terribly stupid puns to subtle forms of sarcasm.

WHAT IS WEIRD ABOUT YOU?

I haven’t paid for a haircut in awhile (a year or two?). I’ve buzzed my hair off into a pixie cut several times. I know it doesn’t always look great, but it’s good enough for me!

THE MOST EXOTIC PLACE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN:

Tela Beach in Honduras

THE MOST ADVENTUROUS THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE:

Hiking the Little Grand Canyon. I thought I was going to have to be left in the canyon, but we made it out! And it was a beautiful day!

LEAST FAVORITE THING TO DO:

Get sunburnt. I turn into a lobster very quickly and then get sick.
