I was born in Memphis, but raised in Southern Illinois and have grown to love this area. I started playing music when I was 6, picked up a guitar at 9, and music has been a huge part of my life ever since. I met my wife in college and we got married in 2010 shortly after we graduated. We have two kids, Silas and Abigail, and I LOVE being a dad. I have been at Cornerstone since 2010 and am loving every minute of it 🙂
Dad. Sweetheart (mostly to my wife and a few close friends.) “Hey You”
Wife, Tia, Son, Silas, and Daughter, Abigail.
Hiking in New Zealand….walking the path to Mordor with my wife and kids.
REGULAR ORDER AT STARBUCKS:
I really like coffee and don’t really like Starbucks. I prefer a freshly roasted Guatemalan bean that is freshly ground and brewed in a French Press. Mmmmmmmmm…..
Inception….and pretty much anything else Christopher Nolan touches. I loved Interstellar, the Prestige, and the Dark Knight Trilogy.
I am a Steve Carrell fan….mostly because of the Office.
THINGS THAT FASCINATE ME:
I love strategy games of all kinds: Risk, Chess, Starcraft, Settlers of Catan, Carcassone, Dominion, Small World…just to name a few. I also love technology, specifically computers and sound/video/lighting gear.
Guitar instructor, student worker at Shawnee Community College, grill cook at DQ, Worship Leader at several smaller churches.
ONE THING THAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME:
I was Homeschooled….and LOVED it. I wouldn’t trade that experience for the world. Also, I can’t stand following a recipe. That’s boring, so I always try some new spices if I’m cooking. Sometimes it’s awesome, sometimes it’s terrible, but it’s never boring.
I’VE BEEN IN MINISTRY SINCE:
On staff at churches since 16….just as a part-time Worship Leader. Full-time ministry since 2014.
FAVORITE TV SHOW:
The Office. Also, Fringe….Fringe was amazing.
WHEN AND WHERE DID YOU GET SAVED:
Very Young (6 years old) at home with my parents.
WHAT SPORTS ARE YOU NOT GOOD AT:
Pretty much any team sport. I am good at Ping-Pong, washers, bags, and other solo sports….but terrible at Basketball, Baseball, Football. I blame it on being homeschooled 🙂
FAVORITE SINGER OR BAND:
Hard to pick one. I have been heavily influenced by singers like Jon Foreman (of Switchfoot,) Matt Maher, and Shane Bernard/Shane Everett. I thoroughly enjoy some John Mayor, Keith Urban, and Eric Johnson. Hillsong, Vertical Church, All Sons and Daughters, Citizens and Saints, and Mutemath are all regular picks for me.
Tupperware drawers. There seems to be no good way to organize them.
Systematic Theology Class. God gave me a love for his word and for getting to know His character. He tore down a lot of preconceived notions I had of who He was, and replaced them with who HE says He is in His Word.
I can make balloon animals and juggle. I’m not proud of it, but it’s true.
SPIDERS. And being buried alive in a box. With Spiders. I’m getting chills just typing this.
For Fiction: Lord of the Rings, Ready Player One, and anything Jules Vernes. Non-Fiction: I really like Leadership Books like “21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership.” I’ve learned a lot from those kinds of books.
PEOPLE WHO INSPIRE ME:
My dad: He loves Jesus and set a great example for me and my siblings. Michael Nave: He is a fantastic leader, a hard worker, and he loves this church. I hope to be leading as effectively as he is when I reach his age. Benedict Cumberbatch: He is just so unbelievably cool. I hope to one day be that cool.
I am a little OCD about stuff. I mostly really like things to be straight and orderly. I also really enjoy studying about productivity.
IN MY SPARE TIME:
I love to write and record music. I use Logic Pro X software for production and it is one of my favorite things to do. I also love hanging with my family, playing a good strategy board game, or watching a movie.
LEAST FAVORITE FOOD:
Lima Beans. The texture is SO weird. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
WHAT/WHO MAKES YOU LAUGH?
My wife cracks me up all the time. We have the best time together and she makes me laugh harder than anybody.
WHAT IS WEIRD ABOUT YOU?
I have a history of passing out at inopportune times, like during my wife’s glucose test, after getting a small cut on my finger with a pocket knife, or after accidentally shooting a staple through my hand.
THE MOST EXOTIC PLACE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN:
Honduras (for a mission trip)
THE MOST ADVENTUROUS THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE:
Riding a Roller-Coaster. Yes, my life is that lame.
LEAST FAVORITE THING TO DO:
Scrubbing crusty/slimy dishes. I don’t mind regular dishes. Just, like, coagulated rice casserole dishes.
